Another Year...

All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages.

Tristan, Happy Birthday to us!! Next year we celebrate!

Yep, I'm a slug

Stayed up late killin' zombies by the thousands, did not turn on work laptop. Slept in killed somemore zombies, did not turn on my laptop. Going to work lunch, not bringing my laptop. Meeting Chelle afterwards, not bringing laptop. Anyone sensing a pattern yet...

Outfit Diary #1 - Cont.

Have started working on the doublet patterning, picked out and ordered the linen I'm using for the trunkenhose and doublet lining. A nice dark green 5.4oz linen. Am not doing the stuffing on either piece of garment this time and I think the velveteen should only need to be interfaced and not interlined.

Now I need more hours in the day. Have a lot of time off from work coming up so I will working on that plus the other new project which has a very aggressive due date (which is still totally doable I think).

Pictures to come when I actually starting piecing some stuff together.

Outfit Diary #1

Have the pattern for the Trunkhose traced, cut out and ready to go. Need to order the linen lining. Have the fashion fabric all set to go (forest green cotten velveteen). Am thinking of working on the pattern for the doublet tonight so I can get that ready to go so when the lining material gets in I can start moving...

On another note, we to see an absoutely fabulous production of Love Labours Lost in Philly last night with Ninian, Tristan and Chelle. The actors were from the Globe and nailed every joke perfectly. The Q&A afterwards was very good, wish I could have gotten a closer look at the costumes.... <le sigh>

(no subject)

Ok, so I'm having a new pleasant drive into work today. Have my morning tea, listening to the radio. All is well with the world. Then my voicemail goes off, listen to the message it's my other admin Shane telling me it's 95 degrees in ...the server room and everything is blinking amber....... Not a good way to start the day.

Yes you got it, the AC had problems this morning.... Luckily no damage to the servers.

Yes Virginia, there is a Black Hole Forming...

Ok so yesterday we had a close friend coming over to the house who also happens to be a Laurel because:

1. We like her.
2. She's fun to hang out with.
3. I told her we would be attempting to get some sewing done.
4. She's fun to hang out with.
5. See #1

So low and behold I managed to actually get the linen out, get the shirt pattern out, trace a new working pattern with a few mods. Got 95% of the pattern cut out (Just have the pleating guides for the cuffs and collar to cut out). Chelle actually started working on her dress mods as well.

So the next question you might ask, is why I am I sitting here writing to all of  you about it when I should be back downstairs in my library working on said shirt - especially since I had to take apart my other shirt to get the pattern piece for the pleating guides. A very good questions and the answer is well..................

I don't have any chocolate in the house; yeah.... that's my answer and I'm sticking to it.

Going back to lurking now.... be afraid, very afraid...

A good night all around

Went to practice tonight for the first time in a year I think. Needed to get out of the house badly. Saw a bunch of people I missed seeing and a couple I didin't miss seeing.

Most importantly got to help 2 friends with some manual work and am looking forward to doing more next week. Have been looking for something in the SCA to get me going again and think I may have found it again.

Thanks Mike and Lissa!!

Things that make you go hmmmmmm

Nothing like reconnecting with a person whom you haven't seen in many a year, even if the conversation is little bit strange.

And yes you can stop blushing now...

Dance Practice Cancelled for 3/2

Dance practice is cancelled tonight due to the fact that the roads are probably going to be ugly tonight. I would rather have everyone home and safe rather than sliding on the ice.

50 Book Challenge part 2

Yep the sleeping beagle deserted me for the soft comfort of my bed where there is a warm blanket and no obnoxious music playing to keep her awake.

Ok, so to catch-up on the backlog...

4. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - British Version
Am still vastly enjoying this version of the series, have been slowing down lately due to work and some other research reading that has a higher priority.

5. The Eyre Affair
The Thursday Next series. OMG, if you have any kind of literature background you absolutely MUST read this series by Jasper Fforde. It is chock full of literary references that even I am having a hard time following and had to actually look a couple of them up again. The story is a little difficult to follow, but is well worth the patience you have to show in several places.

6. Lost in a Good Book
Book 2 of the Thursday Next series. The story gets more complicated but the militant Baconians are amusing...

7.  The Tudor Tailor
Reference book for sewing, is a very good book written by two women who sew the costumes that the renactors wear at the various Royal Palaces. Some of the technical talk is still a little over my head, but Chelle is helping with that as we go. Background reading as I get prepped to do an outfit for Tristan. Very good read and well worth the money.

8. Dance, Spectacle and the Body Politic 1250-1750
Interesting book, a bit dry (go figure) that looks at how dance influence other social aspects of the time periods. To be honest a lot of what was there were conclusions I had come to a long time ago while doing other research. The articles on the garden layouts though was really very, very interesting to read. All in all a good read with lots of good information and some very good jump off points for other research.

9. The Queen's Slave Trader: John Hawkyns, Elizabeth I, and the Trafficking in Human Souls
A good honest look at how slavery in America can be traced directly back to Elizabeth I and some of her policies. Some the conclusions are interesting and have prompted me to go back and do some additional research regarding this. Not a bad read overall.

The Weekend in Recap

Spent most of the week helping C work on her new dress and pattern. We got it 99% finished but ran out of time on Saturday so she did not get to wear this week. Oh well, we have events almost every weekend for the next month or so. This week is finishing the surcoat and banging out another dress along with a least 1 fighting shirt for me.

Went to IronBog Investiture and got to catchup with a lot of people I don't normally see, the event was interesting. Big congrats to everyone that got awards yesterday. Some of them were long overdue!!

wobblyweeble  and I picked up another sewing commission which is exciting. Though we both agree with our wardrobes and the 4 other projects we already have more than enough for the time being. Am very excited to get started on them in the next week or so.

Today is cleaning, laundry and sewing projects. Going to start looking at alysten  documentation that she sent me, should have that done by end of the week.

Of course this massive sinus headache is not helping much.... Off to eat and lay down for a little bit then start again.

Belated Weekend Ramblings

Spent the day at NoiseMakers on Saturday and taught a class on 'How to Move With a Sword' or I should say... How to walk with your sword without becoming a menace yourself...

Class went rather well since I haven't taught it in 20 years, sometimes I amaze myself on how much useless information I have up there at times... don't say it, even though your thinking it... ;) Will probably add this to the growing list of subjects I will offer to autocrats.

Felt good being able to go to an event and not have to think, worry or care about doing or teaching dance. Spent most of the day hanging out with people I very rarely get to spend time with.

Kudos go out to Lissa for doing a really good job with the classes and class schedule, hope you do it again next year. And yes, I will teach it again next year for you :)

Have spent the remainder of the days getting my sewing mojo back. Chelle and I have been working on a new dress for her which if it works will be start of a new wardrobe for her. Got two new fighting shirts cut out and will be washing the fabric for the third one tonight. Will start working on my new wardrobe soon, have a couple of new patterns that are looking very exciting to work with. Plus, my currant costumes are at least 15-20 years old, it's time to start retiring them I think. Also talked to a couple of people at the event who expressed interest in Chelle and I doing some sewing for them. Now all we need to do is start blocking some time that we can get this stuff done.

Had a very good conversation with a best friend (you know who you are) and got alot of junk off my chest that I needed to. Was good to hear I was not completely over-reacting to some of the items. I've decided I don't like the direction I see myself going here in the SCA and am going back to playing the way I used to. Am actually looking forward to events that are coming up which I haven't in a long time.

Need to start prepping for my next three classes, since they are on subjects which I know but have not taught before. I have all the information in they library at home so it is just a question of sitting down and organizing it all.

On the whole a good couple of weeks, am looking forward to getting back to fighting once I have my shirts finished.

This weekend is IronBog investiture which should be interesting to say the least, but hey I'm just going for the laughs....
